ELECTROLYTE EXPERT (F/M/D)

Festanstellung, Vollzeit · Berlin

Your mission
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrolyte Expert with expertise in electrolyte development for lithium metal and lithium-sulfur batteries. The ideal candidate must have a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or a related field and 1-2 years of hands-on experience working with metallic anodes and chalcogenide-based cathodes. The successful candidate will join our dynamic team focused on developing next-generation lithium-sulfur battery technology. As an integral part of the team, you will play a critical role in the research, design, development, and implementation of theion’s core technology and contribute to its improvement, scalability, and commercialization.

YOUR TASK

Design and optimize electrolyte formulations to improve energy density, ionic transport, chemical stability, and interface compatibility with lithium metal and sulfur cathodes
  • Develop liquid, gel, and solid electrolytes to mitigate polysulfide shuttle and dendrite growth within fast-charging, high-sulfur-loading pouch cells.
  • Create and execute comprehensive testing protocols to evaluate the electrochemical performance, cycle life, and stability of developed electrolyte formulations across different cell formats.
  • Identify and address failure mechanisms in high-energy-density lithium-sulfur cells through electrolyte engineering.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Materials Scientists, Chemists, Electrochemists, and Engineers, to advance theion’s lithium-sulfur battery technology.
  • Effectively document and communicate project progress and technical challenges through detailed reports and presentations to diverse teams.
  • Contribute to the development of novel ideas for intellectual property (IP) filings in your field of expertise.
  • Support the scaling and commercialization of theion’s lithium-sulfur batteries in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Your profile
  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of postdoctoral or industrial experience in electrolyte development for lithium-sulfur batteries.
  • Strong expertise in electrolyte formulation for lithium metal and lithium-sulfur batteries, with a focus on mitigating dendrite formation and polysulfide shuttling.
  • Proficiency in electrochemical characterization techniques, including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and other relevant analytical methods.
  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or patents, demonstrating expertise in the field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
