SENIOR SCIENTIST - LITHIUM-SULFUR BATTERY DEVELOPMENT (F/M/D)

Your mission
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Scientist with expertise in cathode development for lithium-sulfur batteries. The ideal candidate must have a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry or a related field and more than 5 years of hands-on experience specifically working within the field of lithium-sulfur batteries. This role will focus on developing advanced cathode architectures and their impact on resulting electrochemical properties. The successful candidate will join our dynamic team focused on developing next-generation lithium-sulfur battery technology. As an integral part of the team, you will play a critical role in the research, design, development and implementation of theion’s core technology and, contribute towards the improvement, scalability and commercialization of this technology.


YOUR TASK

  • Develop highly ordered sulfur cathode architectures using advanced material processing techniques.
  • Establish and execute comprehensive protocols to evaluate the performance, cycle life, and stability of cathode materials in pouch cells.
  • Conduct ex-situ and in-situ analyses using techniques such as EIS, CV, SEM, and XPS to understand cell behavior.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including Materials Scientists, Chemists, Electrochemists, and Engineers, to drive innovation and progress.
  • Effectively document and communicate project progress and technical challenges through technical reports and presentations to diverse teams.
  • Contribute to patent filings by developing novel concepts in your area of expertise.
  • Contribute to the scaling and commercialization of theion’s lithium-sulfur batteries in collaboration with multiple teams.
Your profile
  • PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in lithium-sulfur battery research, with a strong focus on pouch cell development.
  • Expert-level knowledge of sulfur-based cathode materials and strategies to address polysulfide shuttling, energy density, and cycle life challenges.
  • Proficiency with material characterization techniques, including EIS, CV, SEM, and other relevant analytical methods.
  • A proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or patent filings.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
